Lyrics

A MOMENT OF KATE
(Timothy Brickley & David Rheins)

Her bedroom light is on tonight,
I drive by after work, in my car.
Her bedroom walls are always white
and so are her sheets, though I’ve never been inside.
Those walls, that is, she moved recently,
on with her life without comment from me. (But…)

She serves mixed drinks to the white elite,
The Bohemian Club money can’t be beat.
When she graduates, she’s going to get a new car.
Who know, maybe winter? It’s five years so far.

Then she’s gonna get a job in a soap opera,
the dark villainess who doesn’t have a soul.
I had a dream that she loved only me,
we were rich and independent but that isn’t going to be.
Her bedroom light is on tonight.

She’s a little high-strung,
but you wouldn’t know it, some of the time.
On her medication, it’s a handleable situation,
but she likes to forget, to jump over that line,
it feels just like flying, I remember the times.

When I grow old, I hope to fondly look back,
I’ll say “Hey, son.”, and he’ll say, “What, Dad?”
I may or may not be able to relate the beauty of that moment.
A moment of Kate.
