From recently discovered video of a Today’s Icons rehearsal from December 1983, in the then-newly acquired basement at Hit City. Initially a Secrets rocker (with chords nicked from the intro to Bowie’s “Watch That Man”), here given a reggae-like feel born out of the heavy Jah/Ska Love of keyboardist Pete Gable and drummer Gary Fryar.

Lyrics

ELEGANT FEVER
(Timothy Brickley & David Rheins)

I don’t want no elegant fever.
I’m not looking for college romance.
I don’t want to love you forever.
Baby, how come you don’t want to dance?

Wanna dance – like it’s burning inside you.
Wanna dance – you know you look good.
Wanna dance – you got the motion
Baby, how come you don’t want to dance?

You stand there crazy in silence with lonely.
Staring into the dark of the void.
Come on, my love, you know that it’s easy.
Show me that you still know how to dance.

How to dance – like it’s burning inside you.
How to dance – you know you look good.
How to dance – you got the motion.
Baby, how come you don’t want to dance?

You got the body to do all the motions.
Twisting and turning in lights on the floor.
Your eyes jump with fire when you pogo.
Honey, I love you best when you dance.

When you dance – like it’s burning inside you.
When you dance – you know you look good.
When you dance – you got the motion
Baby, how come you don’t want to dance?
