GREY DAY

(Timothy Brickley & David Rheins)

I will help you out again,

I almost believe that we are friends.

Don’t care what you want, I know you’ll be honest.

You’ve been down and out again

in love, again, with that wrong-kinda man and

there’s always another woman in the picture.

I’ve been trying to do right, to

not go crawling through that good night, but

you here in the dark, something keeps us together.

I can hear the worry in your face,

time’s caught up, it’s been following you real close.

We’re just running from inevitable.

It’s a grey day for your graduation.

Years later, nothing learned from the same sad situation, and

who will be around when the leaves are falling from the trees, and

the fishes leaves the sea, and

the time that you spent waiting is worth

    nothing as you leave?

How long can this all go on?

The years are moving, try to find your place in the pages, and

remember when we used to read?

Who won’t you sell out when it all comes down?

Who do you trust with your defenses down?

Would you describe this as happy, or are your frightened?

We always sensed the setup was crazy.

Ethics hazy, spirit lazy.

I offer up our mis-spent youth as a reminder.

It’s a grey day for your graduation.

Years later, nothing learned from the same sad situation, and

who will be around when the leaves are falling from the trees, and

the fishes leaves the sea, and

the time that you spent waiting is worth

    nothing as you leave?

Yes, that might have been the highest love you’ll ever find.

In the worst case we might never lover again throughout our time, and

no-one will be around when the leaves are falling from the trees, and

the fishes leaves the seas, and

the time we all spend waiting is worth nothing when we leave.

So, it’s a great day for your graduation.

Years later, you still might learn from that same, lost situation.

But there’s no promise offered as a reason for to be.

It’s either you, honey, or it’s me

It’s either settling up with settling down or

    learning to live free.
