Every time I see something beautiful I think of you,

even though we can’t be, it’s still the same.

I hear your voice, I picture you there in your new city,

it’s your home now, I know, but wherever you go it’s still the same,

my old flame.

It’s stronger now, that time has left me wiser, more confused.

And even though you have someone new, and I do, too,

does it ring true for you, my old flame?

Even though we didn’t get it right the first time through the mill,

sometimes I still feel the warmth of your memory,

hear your voice when you were telling me that I was the one,

the one who got through, the only one that you ever knew that you really loved.

I said it was too late, then, but now it’s really the end,

to know how much you mean and all I dream is you.

I called your house last Christmas Eve, though nobody there knows my name.

Your mother said you weren’t expected, but who’s calling, please?
